The support sponsorship, at all levels, is truly remarkable given recent economic downturn and for this the Papua New Guinea Golf Association congratulates both the Port Moresby Golf Club and all Sponsors in coming together for this “show of excellence”
The level of professional golf displayed has similarly improved with a good number of past competitors now making inroads on the Australasian and US circuits, and once again in 2010 we have past winners returning in an attempt take the crown. This year the number of PNG professionals has increased with our newly accredited former amateur champions, Nelson Gabriel and Robert Peni joining the ranks of the Papua New Guinea Golf Association Professional Golf Affiliates. (PNG-PGA).
In 2007 this event shared the “Tournament of the Year” in the Queensland Golf Industries Awards, in 2008 and again last year, 2009, this event was one of the final four nominees for this prestigious award only to miss out last year by the slimmest margin of only one point. Nonetheless we congratulate all the volunteers, Organising Committee and players and spectators for putting on a great tournament and we expect nothing less in 2010.
To all the competitors, both amateur and professional, to all the sponsors and members of the Port Moresby Golf Club we wish you well and we look forward to a most successful event shared nationwide through the PNG Media at all levels.
