Welcome Message from Tournament Director

Michael Wright is back to defend his title and claim the honour of being the first back to back winner in the history of the tournament. However, past winners Joshua Carmichael, Andrew Bonhomme, Eddie Barr and the irrepressible Bradley D Burns will be doing their best to claim their second PNG Open title respectively.   No doubt strong competition will also emerge from exciting ‘new faces’ and, of course, our local heroes August Peni , Nelson Gabriel, David Yere  and Robert Peni.

Course Superintendent Augie Peni and his hard working team have the course in magnificent condition and with the introduction of a new tier on the 6th green, a new 10th green location, the water hazard coming more prominently into play on the 9th hole and new swales to the SP Export Lager 18th green there are plenty of new challenges for this year’s field to negotiate over the championship 72 holes.

This year South Pacific Breweries are our naming rights sponsor for the third successive year and I am would like to thank them for their contribution to the development of golf in PNG and assisting in making the SP Export PNG Open one of the marquee sporting events on the PNG sporting calendar. I would also like to acknowledge Sharp for their ongoing sponsorship of the Pro Am over many years now.  In addition, there are many other sponsors who have contributed to this year’s event and I request members and guests to support all our sponsors who have all  contributed  significantly to the success of this year’s event.

I know you will enjoy 4 days of exhilarating golf and I extend an invitation to enjoy the facilities of the club during and after each days play. Bar Manager Freda and her team will provide you with a warm welcome and the opportunity to enjoy a cold SP Export Lager (and other beverages) with a good value meal in the club restaurant.

Yours in golf.
